Last week, Asus and Google announced the Nexus 7 $200 Android tablet. The Nexus 7 will be Google’s first Google branded tablet and it will be running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
Everyone was shocked at the very low price point but things are starting to make sense now as Nokia is claiming that Google nor Asus has licensed any of Nokia patents which the device infringes on.
A Nokia spokesperson told The INQUIRER,
“Nokia has more than 40 licensees, mainly for its standards essential patent portfolio, including most of the mobile device manufacturers. Neither Google nor Asus is licensed under our patent portfolio.”
“Companies who are not yet licensed under our standard essential patents should simply approach us and sign up for a license.”
An Asus spokesperson has only this to say about the allegations:
”at the moment, Asus will not be providing any response/comment related.”
I have a feeling that this one will end up battled in a court near you very soon.
